Roadmap for the revitalization of the tomato industry in Nigeria
Objectives and Key Activities:
Identify, register and cluster farmers for ease of input and credit acquisition.
Procure and distribute critical inputs to reduce production costs (hybrid indeterminate and determinate seeds, fertilizers etc.)
Facilitate the formation of tomato farm clusters for each functional and prospective processing factory in order to provide a steady flow of raw materials for processing factories.
Support the provision of modern production technology such as agro net-houses, drip lines, organic pesticides/fertilizers, etc., for high quality fresh fruits.
Build the capacity of extension officers and farmers on pest management (e.g. tomato leaf miners and fruit flies and other pests of tomato farms)
Build the capacity of extension officers and farmers on production management techniques and promote the use of improved technology in order to ensure sustainable production of quality fruits all year round, to prevent glut and instability.

Support an assessment of the technology needs related to small equipment
Support the definition of centers for common shared facilities and infrastructures (including environmental services) through a cluster approach.
Facilitate a network of potential local, national and international partners.
Support the development of local industrial tanneries through best practices/technology transfer and investment promotion.
Support the development of comprehensive technical training programs.
Assess the integration of renewable energy solutions to support small scale industrial energy needs.
Assess the methods of increasing access to markets, both nationally and internationally, and
Conduct investigation into quality management processes and standards.

Cotton Textile and Garment sector
The UNIDO-Nigeria Industrial Revolution Project Office focuses on capacity strengthening for sustainable industrial development in Nigeria. The aim of the overall project is to contribute to the main goals of the Nigerian government’s Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP), which seeks to spur economic diversification, industrial growth, job creation, and sustainable livelihoods. Under the agro-allied category, the CTG sector has been identified a potential cash-crop which can effectively revive and diversify Nigeria’s economy. The NIRP Project Office is in the process of identifying a potential pilot project under the Cotton Textile and Garment sector.

The UNIDO-Nigeria Industrial Revolution Project Office focuses on capacity strengthening for sustainable industrial development in Nigeria. The aim of the overall project is to contribute to the main goals of the Nigerian government’s Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP), which seeks to spur economic diversification, industrial growth, job creation, and sustainable livelihoods.
The automotive sector has been identified as one with enough potential to effectively revive and diversify Nigeria’s economy. The NIRP Project Office is will work in the area of local component manufacturing within the automotive sector.
